USA forces attack Popular Mobilization Units base, kill 30

The US forces carried out "heavy bombardment on Monday morning on the posts of Sayyd al-Shuhadaa Brigades in Akashat area near the border with Syria", Xinhua cited the unit as saying in a statement.

According to reports, 35 fighters were killed and 25 were injured in the airstrike on Monday night.

A source within the brigade, a faction of the Hashd al-Shaabi, said a convoy of its fighters was targeted inside Southern Syria across the border from al-Rutba district in Iraq's Anbar province. PMU commanders are reportedly among the dead, Sputnik reported.

According to a statement released by the Sayaed al-Shuhada brigades on their website on Monday, their base was targeted by USA artillery fire and smart bombs. "We strongly condemn this deliberate attack". "No Coalition strikes there [at that time]", Army Colonel Ryan Dillon, a spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve, the USA -led coalition against ISIS, tweeted.

The PMUs, aka Hashd al-Sha'abi, is a group of Shia and Sunni fighters that was formed after the emergence of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group in Iraq in 2014.

The hosts were widely criticised after South Africa levelled the series 1-1 in the second Test with a 340-run victory. As for his England future, Anderson spelled out that Ashes victory next winter is already on his mind.

The recent airstrike is not the first time that United States forces have bombed pro-government fighters in Iraq.

In November 2016, the Iraqi parliament gave the PMU the power of law enforcement agencies, which basically provides the militia with the same powers as the government army and police.

It said: "This is in order to deprive the Americans from using the border line to pass their malicious agendas".

"The intelligence of the Hashd Shaabi command said they have no information about it (shelling on Hashd Shaabi unit), and the Joint Operations Command said that Daesh (IS group) itself used sophisticated cannons and a auto bomb in the attack", Abadi said at a press conference after his weekly cabinet meeting.

He said that the USA had threatened the Iraqi popular forces in al-Tanf region before.
