The baptized Charlie Gard dies

The British baby, who suffered from an extremely rare genetic condition and became the subject of a bitter dispute between his parents and doctors, has lost his fight for life. The 11-month-old British child, center of an worldwide controversy for weeks, was moved to a hospice, where doctors planned to turn off life-support equipment.

Family spokesperson Alison Smith-Squire announced on Sunday that he will be buried with his toy monkeys, pictured with him in one of the viral photos of the boy.

Ms Yates is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: "We should be planning Charlie's first birthday but instead we're planning his funeral".

Cardinal Nichols' statement also offers support and sympathies to the staff of Great Ormond Street Hospital, who cared for Charlie. His parents then spent several months trying to persuade London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Charlie was being treated, to allow them to bring their ill son to the U.S.in an attempt to save his life.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence tweeted that he was saddened to hear of Charlie's death.

His parents had sought to take him to the United States for a type of experimental treatment. This too, however, was denied to them on the grounds that it may cause Charlie prolonged suffering, according to GOSH doctors.

As the legal case made global headlines, it drew comment from US President Donald Trump and Pope Francis.

The Pope took to Twitter to say he entrusts Charlie "to the Father and pray for his parents" as well as the other people who loved the boy.

After a harrowing legal battle that prompted a global debate over who has the moral right to decide the fate of a sick child, a judge on Thursday ordered that Charlie be moved to a hospice where the ventilator that keeps him alive would be turned off. The parents' taking GOSH to court was the spark that lit the months-long legal turmoil for the family.

A family friend said: "Charlie's passing will leave a huge void in their lives". She added that her thoughts and prayers are with the parents of Charlie at this very hard time.

The Catholic Association (TCA) also offered their condolences, noting that Gard and Yates had to endure both the death of their son as well as a tumultuous legal fight.

However, even though it's not the top spot, becoming the platform's most-played non-Valve game is usually news in and of itself. It is pretty incredible to think that in four months over 6 million copies of Battlegrounds have been sold.
