Sociedad's Vela headed to MLS

Vela becomes the club's first DP signing. Real Sociedad announced Vela would be leaving the club for MLS in January.

He went out on three loan spells to Osasuna, Salamanca and West Bromwich Albion before joining Real Sociedad in 2012. According to the soccer website transfermarkt.com, Vela's contract with Sociedad runs through June, meaning LAFC will have to play a transfer fee.

Earlier on Tuesday, LaLiga side Sociedad had revealed an agreement was in place for Vela to swap Spain for the United States.

LAFC made headlines with the recent appointment of former USA national team boss Bob Bradley as the franchise's first head coach. The Banc of California Stadium is under construction, the team has hired a big-name coach in Bob Bradley, and had already signed two players to its inaugural roster before today.

LAFC has been close to signing a Mexican national team player before only to see the deal fall apart before the contract was final.

The talented 28-year-old is one of the best players on the Mexican national team and has put together a really nice career at Sociedad. He made his national team debut in 2007 and scored his first worldwide goal a month later against the U.S.at the Coliseum.

Vela starred for Mexico when it won the U-17 World Cup in 2005, and he played at the 2010 World Cup and Gold Cup championship teams in 2009 and 2015.

Just two weeks ago Mexican global Jonathan dos Santos made the jump from La Liga to join brother Giovani dos Santos at the LA Galaxy.
