Single-engine plane crashes near Adrian, two seriously injured

Two people were injured Saturday morning just after their plane landed at the Ashland County Airport according to police officials.

The single-engine airplane crashed around 10 a.m. Friday near Lyons Highway between Sand Creek Highway and Gorman Road in Madison Township.

That's about four miles south of the Lenawee County Airport.

According to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the plane was a 1943 North American SNJ 4 used by the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Rescuers pulled a man and a woman from the plane, who were reportedly hanging upside down inside the aircraft, Richert said. They were both transported to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The names of the victims were not immediately released. The Federal Aviation Administration is on the way to the site to investigate the cause of the crash.
