Sharp has officially introduced a new smartphone Aquos S2

Now in the line of Sharp 29 "frameless" devices, and the new Aquos S2 was the most powerful of them.

None of this will matter much to customers out of Asia, as China is now the only market where the Aquos S2 is available and it's unlikely to go global.

While the Snapdragon 630 powered variant offers 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the Snapdragon 660 powered variant packs 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

On the bottom of the front panel is a fingerprint scanner with a width of 3.6 millimeters, according to Sharp, this is the narrow gauge among all smartphones.

The Aquos S2 has a screen that stretches nearly across its entire face, with just a notch carved out on top for the selfie camera, making it quite similar to the. It is integrated right into the home button placed beneath the display.

The company is also offering the RoboS AI that was first introduced with the Sharp's RoBoHon launched past year in Japan. A USB type-C port sits in the middle of two speaker grilles at the bottom.

Zynerba Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZYNE) Sets New 1-Year Low at $6.37

There is one very weird quirk on the front of the phone, though: look at the top corners of the display. The display offers a 550 nits brightness and an impressive 135% of RGB colour coverage. Due to its screen-to-body ratio, the 5.5-inch display panel on the device feels like a 5-inch body. The Aquos S2 will be available in two different variants powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 660 processors.

The Aquos S2 will ship with a new UI called Smile UX which has a smart assistant built into it.

In terms of photography, the Sharp Aquos S2 houses a dual rear camera setup that comes combined with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor for capturing depth information.

For selfies, there is also an 8MP sensor on the front with f/2.0 aperture.

On the connectivity front, the Sharp Aquos S2 is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts two Nano-SIM cards.

The vertical dual camera on the back is a 12-/8-megapixel combo. Sharp Aquos S2 is equipped with a port USB Type-C, but lacks support for fast charging. While the front camera is no longer placed on the chin, there's now a fingerprint reader centered there - an interesting choice when both the Essential Phone and Xiaomi's Mi Mix opted for a rear fingerprint reader instead. It measures 141.8 x 72.04 x 7.9 mm and weighs 140 grams.
