Nigeria's Buhari "feels ready to go home", awaiting doctor's OK

Nigeria's Buhari

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari says he feels healthy enough to return home and is only awaiting permission from his doctor.

Following his latest medical trip, some groups and individuals have been calling for his return or resignation if he is unfit to govern.

That has sparked numerous protests, including demands that Buhari should resign, as well as calls for more transparency about the president's condition. Here, the doctor is absolutely in charge.

"No doubt, the violent disruption of the anti-Buhari rally ought to have embarrassed President Buhari who had advised President Yar'adua, in a similar situation, to step aside as he could no longer discharge the duties and functions of his office".

In company of the Lai Mohammed-led team were Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, and Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media.

According to Adesina, When the team expressed delight at the much improved health of the President, he retorted: "I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I have now learnt to obey orders, rather than be obeyed", the president reportedly said.
