Multiple Athletes at IAAF World Athletics Championships Out with Stomach Illness

Wayde van Niekerk retained his world 400 meters title in dominant fashion on Tuesday as he stormed to victory in 43.98 seconds but there was nearly as much interest in the empty lane alongside him where Botswana's Isaac Makwala should have been.

Isaac Makwala of Botswana was controversially ruled out of the final after the outbreak of the norovirus among athletes at the event.

Canadian Aaron Brown posted the second-fastest time in the men's 200m heats at the IAAF World Championships.

At just 25 years old, the possibility is there for van Niekerk to one day match Michael Johnson's four world championship gold medals.

It's also known that Botswana's Isaac Makwala had to withdraw from the 200m heats because of illness.

The row detracted from Van Niekerk's impressively routine win - silver medallist Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas was nearly half a second slower - and what was meant to be his inheritance of Usain Bolt's status as the golden boy of athletics.

On being first Asian medallist in the 400m he admitted: "It is a very special moment for my country and an honour to take the bronze medal with me". "I have a lot of sympathy for Isaac". They said 'no, you can't run because you are sick.' Sometimes I think maybe this is sabotage.

"I would have loved him to have the opportunity". It took me a while to recover.

Climate change report leaked as Trump administration distances itself from science
The panic-inducing headline reads: "Scientists Fear Trump Will Dismiss Blunt Climate Report". The 600-page report , completed by the U.S.

"What this does is it sends out a risky message now because other athletes that get ill will certainly not be giving away any sign of that".

Makwala said he felt well and wanted to race but when he attempted to go through the athletes' entrance, an official and security personnel barred his way.

"I'm gutted to have to withdraw from the semi-final". I just vomited. I vomited when I got on the bus yesterday for my 200 (metre race) heats.

"The foul was called on the left foot - they said I touched outside the ring", Crouser said.

Van Niekerk, who also revealed that he has been struggling with a back injury for much of the season, added: "When I knew I was going to take gold it was such a massive relief".

Makwala was expected to be the toughest challenger for favorite Wayde Van Niekerk in the 400. I believed I could really win it today, I was so focused and confident.

Public Health England London deputy director for health protection Dr Deborah Turbitt on Tuesday said, "PHE has been notified of a confirmed outbreak of norovirus among people associated with the World Athletics Championships".

Other winners were no surprise: Conseslus Kipruto of Kenya in the steeplechase and Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic in the javelin - a victory that came a decade after her last world title. "Actually, it is also nearly exactly five years since my Olympic title here in London".
