Marvin Lewis 'Taking Time Away' From Bengals to Deal With Health Issue

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is taking time off for a "minor health issue", the team said Tuesday.

Lewis used a cart to shuttle to the practice field earlier this week, which isn't his usual routine. The initial report did say that he hopes to return as soon as possible.

WLWT will update this story as details become available.

Special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons assumed head coaching responsibilities on Tuesday and will remain in that role as long as necessary.

Florida man shot to death while defending his gay friends
Investigators concluded that Cruz rushed to defend his friends when Hernandez Mena pulled out a gun, then shot and killed Cruz. He told investigators he drank 15 to 20 beers and was very drunk when a group of guys started attacking and threatening him.

NFL Network's Stacey Dales reported via Twitter that Lewis is dealing with a blood clot in his ankle, citing a source close to Lewis.

Simmons has been on Lewis' staff since Lewis was hired in Cincinnati in 2003.

Lewis is entering his 15th season with the Bengals and could be coaching for his job in 2017.

The Bengals kickoff the preseason Friday night when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it's uncertain whether Lewis will be on the sidelines for that game. During his time with the team, Lewis has compiled a record of 118-103-3 and he has guided Cincinnati to the playoffs seven times.
