Leaders of US, France Discuss N. Korean Issue

General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, will meet with President Moon Jae-in in Seoul on Monday amid escalating tensions over North Korea's nuclear program, according to an official with South Korea's Blue House.

United States President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted that military solutions were "fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un responded by threatening, if attacked, to strike targets in or around Guam in the western Pacific.

The phone call with the French President came hours after Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping. While North Korea is testing the patience of its longtime benefactor, such a scenario could lead to a unified Korea and push USA troops right up to China's border.

The warm words exchanged between Xi and Trump Friday night in the USA masked underlying tensions between Beijing and Washington over how to deal with the errant regime in Pyongyang.

In a statement, the 39-year-old voiced his "concern at the ballistic and nuclear threat coming from North Korea", saying world leaders needed to work to get Pyongyang to "resume the path of dialogue without conditions". Trump also said the US was considering tighter sanctions against North Korea.

President Donald Trump has issued fresh threats of swift and forceful retaliation against nuclear North Korea, declaring the US military "locked and loaded" and warning that the communist country's leader "will regret it fast" if he takes any action against USA territories or allies. "North Koreans are not suicidal".

It continued, "If the Trump administration does not want the American empire to meet its tragic doom in its tenure, they had better talk and act properly".

Sen. Graham also said he doesn't think Trump needs congressional approval to launch a military strike against North Korea, claiming, "There's nothing in the Constitution limiting the ability to use force to protect America".

Trump also reiterated their mutual commitment to denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, it added.

Professor Lucas said: "The Chinese and the United States have been talking behind the scenes for months about what to do".
