Federer storms into semis, but Anderson goes down in Montreal

Roger Federer reached the Rogers Cup semi-finals on Friday after coming to the net early and often in a straight sets victory over Roberto Bautista Agut on a windy day in Montreal.

That snapped a remarkable run of 32 consecutive sets won by Federer, who had seemingly found another gear by breaking Ferrer at the first time of asking in the second. But the German was too sharp, winning 81 per cent of the points off his serve compared to 64 per cent for Shapovalov.

"I think those young players don't quite know what to expect, and (neither) do I, because nobody quite knows", said Federer.

Holland's world No.52 Haase fought back after losing the first set against Argentina's Diego Schwartzman to win 4-6 6-3 6-3.

The 36-year-old Federer blasted nine aces and lost just nine points on his serve as he extended his match win streak to 16 - his longest win streak in five years.

"Today, I felt that I didn't get into the rhythm of the match and I didn't feel the ball well", he said. I came from vacation, did some fitness, saw how I was feeling and said, 'You know what, I practiced so much the a year ago, let's go play some matches'.

"Wimbledon was always my favourite tournament, will always be my favourite tournament", Federer said after winning the tournament for the eighth time. He has a ATP Tour high five titles in 2017. Just to get back to number one once again in your career is a big deal, especially later in your life.

Alexis Sanchez to Miss Arsenal's Opener Against Leicester City
And Wenger says that Sanchez will be out of the Gunners first two matches of the season against Leicester City and Stoke City. Arsenal begin their league campaign on Friday while Liverpool play Watford away on Saturday.

Unlike the match against Ferrer, in which he made a lot of unforced errors before managing a 4-6,6-4, 6-2 win, Federer was in complete control while decimating Agut.

However, it was a decidedly more hard task against fellow veteran Ferrer, who ultimately came up short in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 defeat on Thursday.

Denis Shapovalov has to come up with some new goals. Shapovalov also upset former US Open victor Juan Martin Del Potro in the second round.

The momentum changed in the second set after a brief rain delay halted play for about 10 minutes with Shapovalov holding a 3-2 lead on serve. I've been able to keep points short.

Federer is 17-0 in his career against the 35-year-old Ferrer, who was ranked third in the world in 2013 but is now at No.33.

"I'm happy, as I knew I would have to play a lot of rallies", said Bautista Agut.

"I was not as fast". Then this kind of eats you up inside mentally. "But, in general, to make an achievement like this is good because it shows you can do it".
