Facebook Introduces New 'Watch' Video Platform

Although licensing talks are ongoing, for now Facebook relies on the pesky copyright safe harbour to avoid liability for all the music being uploaded to its platform without licence, whether in the form of pop promos or music synchronised into other videos.

But, as Facebook's video channel becomes ever more like a YouTube clone, with new tools for browsing and organising content, the social media is indeed in danger of becoming a competitor to the cash cow premium streaming services.

Facebook Watch is a new platform launched by the social media giant for shows.

"So when you watch a show, you can see comments and connect with friends and other viewers while watching, or participate in a dedicated Facebook Group for the show", he said. "On Facebook, videos are discovered through friends and bring communities together". Like YouTube, Facebook also Watch publishers to earn revenue on their content, using the same 45/55 revenue split.

Facebook will initially make the platform available on its desktop and app versions to a "limited group of people" in the United States, before rolling it out globally.

The feature began appearing for some users in U.S. on Thursday.Shows played on Watch, which can be live or recorded will follow a particular theme or a storyline and will available different categories like "Most Talked About" or "What's Making People Laugh" so that viewer can pick up show according to thier interests. According to recent news some contents and videos from Buzzfeed, Tastemade, Conde Nast Entertainment, and even from ATTN are expected to hit Watch.

Imagine that all these users that Facebook have gathered throughout the years; now, the Watch can also capitalize on the huge amount of audience and statistics they have.

There's also a monetary incentive for publishers to create and upload original videos to Facebook Watch.

The social media tycoon also features a total of 1.32 billion people on average who log onto Facebook daily active users (Facebook DAU) for June 2017, which represents a 17 percent increase year and 1.74 billion mobile active users (Mobile Facebook MAU) for December 2016 which is an increase of 21% year-over-year.

Earlier this week, Facebook announced its intention of releasing a new platform on its site.
