Climate Report Could Force Trump to Choose Between Science and His Base

While announcing the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Change agreement, Trump cited American interests as the primary reason.

A bigger question is whether Mr. Trump will choose to discuss the climate science report and the broader National Climate Assessment when they are finally released - or if he will play them down.

The 600-page report, completed by the U.S. Global Change Research Program, is the latest version of a comprehensive climate change report required by Congress to be delivered every four years. They are projected to rise at least 2.5 degrees in the contiguous United States over the next few decades even if emissions were significantly reduced, "meaning that the temperatures of recent record-setting years will become relatively common in the near future".

A climate report dubbed "the Climate Science Special Report" conducted by scientists in 13 federal agencies is under active review at the White House.

The former SC governor was asked on NBC's "Today" show about a new climate change report from government scientists at 13 federal agencies.

The Canadian government should look at trying to replicate the research in a new US report leaked this week that bluntly says climate change is real and is already having an impact on weather patterns in America, a national environmental think tank said Tuesday.

The emails center around Lynch's meeting with Clinton on the tarmac of the Phoenix airport in June 2016. But she did say that she realized that the meeting could be interpreted as a conflict of interest.

The draft report estimates that human impact is responsible for a Fahrenheit increase in global temperatures of 1.1 to 1.3 degrees from 1951 to 2010. Increases in the United States are expected to spike by 5 degrees by century's end with lower emissions, and by nearly 9 degrees with higher emissions, making parts of the country potentially unlivable outside of climate-controlled environments. In addition, the report suggests "with very high confidence" that these episodes are likely to continue and to worsen, if current warming trends continue. Globally, the interconnectedness means sea level has been rising at the fastest rate in about 2,000 years. That means more "extreme" precipitation events that can cause flooding.

The Paris climate accord, in which almost 200 countries participate, includes an agreement to cut or limit fossil fuel emissions.

The draft special report on climate change now under review by the White House focuses primarily on the physical science of global warming, and will feed into a much broader evaluation of the potential social and economic consequences of climate change.

"Though the president would prefer to think climate change is a hoax, it is all too real".

In that review, NAS said the draft report "is impressive, timely and generally well-written", and cited its "breath, accuracy and rigor". "It's either going to become an official U.S. government report, or it won't be, in which case we would have to find another outlet for it".
