Chelsea to make improved £25m bid for Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater

Chelsea are believed to be interested in landing the 27-year-old midfielder as Antonio Conte prepares for his second season in charge and gears his team up for a return to the Champions League next term.

As per The Telegraph, the London club failed with an initial £15 million bid for the central midfielder and are yet to make a second offer.

Nemanja Matic has already left the Blues for Manchester United amid fears he would not get in ahead of N'Golo Kante and new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Leicester City boss Craig Shakespeare insists the Foxes "don't want to be a selling club", amidst uncertainty over Riyad Mahrez's future. We don't want to be a selling club I think we've got owners who want to keep their best players.

"You know when you have good players that there might be interest in them from other clubs but I wouldn't sleep at night if all the scenarios that you (the media) put to me happened".

It's somewhat surprising Drinkwater would want to go from an established starter with the Foxes to perhaps spending most of his time on the bench at Chelsea.

"Every manager's nightmare is to lose a player in the last 24 hours or on the day of the window [closing] and you can't get a replacement in", said the Englishman.

"I think every club is living in that reality, so we have to deal with it".

Chelsea have spent almost £150million on signing Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Bakayoko this summer but Conte is keen to add three of four new faces to his squad before the window closes.
