BJP urges Oppn not to politicise Chandigarh stalking case

A court in Chandigarh on Saturday sent Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish Kumar to judicial custody till August 25.

Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish Kumar are accused of chasing, stalking and trying to kidnap daughter of a bureaucrat in Chandigarh in dead of night.

After the incident, Kundu filed a complaint and the duo was booked on charges of stalking and attempt to kidnap. They were, however, granted bail on the same day.

The victim, 29-year-old Varnika Kundu, had alleged that on the intervening night of August 4 and 5 Vikas and Ashish chased her, blocked her way, hit on her vehicle window and tried to force her door open. However, based on the public prosecutor's plea, the court granted two-day police custody of the accused on grounds that they were needed to reconstruct the crime scene and establishing motive behind the crime.
