American Tourist In Germany Does Nazi Salute, Gets Beaten Up

An inebriated American tourist was beaten up in the German city of Dresden after he repeatedly raised his arm to give the Nazi salute, police said today.

Police in the eastern German city of Dresden said the 41-year-old American man was drunk when he made the offensive gesture.

The police have launched a procedure for the use of "symbols of unconstitutional organizations" by the tourist.

The American is now under investigation for violating Germany's blasphemy laws which are very strict when it comes to anything related to Nazi symbolism.

The tourist was heavily intoxicated and had a blood alcohol level of 0.276 percent. He suffered minor injuries, while the stranger who assailed him fled the scene, police said. The name of the tourist was withheld for privacy reasons.

PSA to tourists: Don't do a Nazi salute in Germany.

The Dresden incident occurred just a week after two Chinese tourists were detained for giving Nazi salutes outside Berlin's Reichstag, once home to the Imperial Diet. They were later freed after posting a 500 Euro bail.

But as one British paper pointed out, those who know the history of the Nazi salute should know not to do it. "Don't do it anywhere in fact".
