Abbas to Meretz: Peace Deal Assured If Only Trump Pushed Israel More

Palestinian, Jordanian and Egyptian officials met in Cairo Saturday to discuss the next stages in the US-led peace process prior to the arrival of a high-level White House delegation in the region this week.

Speaking in Ramallah to a visiting delegation of left-wing Israeli politicians from the Meretz party, Abbas said of the president, "I don't even know how they are dealing with us, because his entire administration is in chaos".

The table has been set for the arrival of US President Donald Trump's peace negotiating team, but both the Israelis and Palestinians remain skeptical that the latest American foray into brokering peace between the two sides will produce any tangible results.

Senior Palestinian official, Ahmed Majdalani, told the Voice of Palestine that there are no signs the United States delegation to Palestine will make any progress in breaking the deadlock in peace talks.

Kushner is expected to visit the region this week in an attempt to advance the peace process, the Arutz Sheva website reported.

Rohtagi also asked the Supreme Court to examine other aspects of Muslim personal laws which included polygamy and nikah halala. The multi-religion bench comprises Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justices Kurian Joseph, RF Nariman, UU Lalit and Abdul Nazeer.

The incident occurred at the Taphuah Junction, a major crossroad in the central Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Trump ordered the USA delegation to focus on a path to "substantive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks", but ambiguity around the two-state solution and bias towards Israel has left confidence low among the Palestinian leadership.

The American delegation will comprise senior Trump adviser Jared Kushner, US special representative for worldwide negotiations Jason Greenblatt and US deputy national security adviser Dina Powell.

Trump has directed that the talks focus on a pathway to peace talks, fighting "extremism", easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and identifying economic steps that can be taken to ensure security and stability, the official said.
