Video of shark being dragged behind Florida boat prompts FWC investigation

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is investigating a now viral video that appears to show a shark being dragged behind a boat at high speed.

The video was shared multiple times on social media but it's not clear exactly when or where it was recorded.

"The FWC takes this very seriously and is now investigating this incident", FWC spokesperson Rob Klepper said in an email Tuesday.

FWC said they're attempting to identify the people in the video.

Jairo is a young player but already has a lot of experience. "It is a great opportunity to be working under Frank de Boer once again".

As the shark flops around in the boat's wake, one of the men says, "look, it's already nearly dead". "For instance, when someone calls the FWC's Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922) to report an injured, entangled or sick manatee or sea turtle, FWC staff responds with efforts to rescue and rehabilitate the animal". Individuals can remain anonymous.

However, investigators won't say much more about the video that's been seen on several social media sites including Facebook and Instagram. The camera then turns to show three men on that boat, laughing as they look back at the shark.

FWC public information coordinator Rob Klepper said that while the agency is investigating, it's too early to know if any violations took place.
