Trump to sign Russian Federation sanctions bill: White House

The sanctions have been proposed over Russia's alleged meddling in the US 2016 presidential election, which saw US President Donald Trump winning the presidency.

The number of USA targets inside Russian Federation for Kremlin retaliation are limited, particularly if Moscow is anxious about damaging the investment climate or about other economic fallout. During his campaign for the presidency, Trump pledged to improve ties with Russian Federation. Its response suggests it has set aside initial hopes of better ties with Washington under Trump, something Trump, before he was elected, had said he wanted to achieve.

Washington vowed Saturday it would "work closely with our friends and Allies" after U.S. lawmakers passed sanctions on Russian Federation that upset some European nations fearful that it could hit their businesses.

The bill, which also includes new sanctions on Iran and North Korea, was a product of lengthy negotiations between the House and Senate.

While Moscow announced the decision to reduce the number of United States diplomats in Russian Federation to 455 by September 1, it is not clear exactly how many people will have to leave to meet the new requirements.

It also said it would seize a Moscow compound used by US diplomats as well as a USA diplomatic warehouse.

"President Donald Trump read early drafts of the bill and negotiated regarding critical elements of it", White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement late Friday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry's statement said the passage of the bill confirmed "the extreme aggression of the United States in global affairs".

Trump Intends To Sign Russia Sanctions Bill
The Russian Foreign Ministry strongly criticized the latest package of sanctions approved by USA lawmakers on Tuesday. That echoes arguments from Obama, who resisted Congressional intrusions into his nuclear diplomacy with Iran.

It said in a series of tweets that pressure does not work with Russian Federation and that sanctions will not improve relations.

Elaborating on Moscow's decision to downsize of the number of US diplomatic corps in Russia to the same number of Russian diplomats in the US, Ryabkov said Russia has waited seven months before resorting to the measure.

"Now we should start anew and my call to the counterparts in Washington and also to Ambassador Tefft is to stop now, we should start building a new house, a new construction or a very different type, otherwise everything will be in tatters".

"We have something to retaliate with: the personnel of the United States embassy in Moscow greatly exceeds the number of our embassy staff in Washington", Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated.

Russian Federation is also barring Americans from using two diplomatic facilities.

Russia's move against United States diplomats is delayed payback for an Obama administration decision in December to expel Russian envoys and seize their holiday compounds, a response to Moscow's interference in the presidential election campaign. President Trump should sign this bill as soon as it hits his desk.

"We have received the Russian government notification", a State Department official said on condition of anonymity. Germany's foreign minister said his country wouldn't accept the US sanctions against Russian Federation being applied to European companies.

The Trump administration had opposed the new financial penalties voted for by the Senate, as the President seeks warmer ties with the Kremlin.
