Trump accuses China of doing nothing on North Korea

Trump said the USA will do everything it can to safeguard its homeland and its allies in the region.

Reacting to this, President Donald Trump had announced that the United States would act in the necessary means to ensure its security.

China meanwhile, North Korea's most important ally, urged Pyongyang to abide by the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and refrain from escalating tensions, according to a foreign ministry spokesman quoted by the Xinhua news agency. That means it "could easily reach the U.S. West Coast, and a number of major U.S. cities", he said.

A week after the first test, the US put its missile defense system through a successful dry run that shot down a high-altitude mock target.

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency said on July 11 that it conducted a successful test from Kodiak, Alaska, of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, part of the United States' ballistic-missile defense system.

Pentagon spokesman Davis said the US commitment to the defense of allies including South Korea and Japan "remains ironclad".

It is the second ICBM launch in less than a month by the North, despite global efforts to curb the development of missile technology by the nuclear-armed authoritarian state.

A missile fired by North Korea on Friday appeared to be a "medium-range" weapon, the Russian military said, as the United States asserted Pyongyang had launched a second ICBM. However, she reiterated that South Korea will continue to call on North Korea to refrain from provocations and accept Seoul's proposals. "As the principal economic enablers of North Korea's nuclear weapon and ballistic missile development programme, China and Russian Federation bear unique and special responsibility for this growing threat to regional and global stability", Tillerson said in a statement.

If the missile were fired on a flatter, standard trajectory, it would have major USA cities like Los Angeles, Denver and Chicago well within its range, with possibly the ability to reach as far as NY and Boston.

North Korea on Saturday confirmed the launch of the missile, saying it was a stern warning for the US. The country also claimed its most recent missile test showed re-entry capabilities, meaning it could bring the missile down on a precise target. It isn't known how heavy a warhead the missile was carrying either, and that could significantly affect the weapon's range as well.
