This is Atari's next gaming console

Atari's last console was the Jaguar, which was released all the way back in 1993 and was deemed a commercial failure soon after, prompting the company to leave the video game console market. That Atari was (is) silently working on its next gaming console - its first in over 20 years now - came to light earlier at E3 when CEO Frederic Chesnais briefly touched upon the Ataribox.

"As reported by The Verve, Atari told prospective players that "[its] objective is to create something new, that stays true to [its] heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari" in an email. The device has a HDMI port, four USB ports and SD card support. The new Ataribox is clearly inspired by the classic wood found on the Atari 2600, and the new console features ribbed lines, a raised back, and a front panel that can either be glass or wood. But while the Nintendo consoles are largely exact [design] replicas of their respective counterparts (after being hit with a shrink ray, of course), the Ataribox melds retro touches with a modern flavor. This week however, Atari is making a return, announcing the Ataribox, which was originally teased last month. One is a wood edition and the other is the pictured red and black.

Then the zombies are shown, which appear to be more decrepit and gruesome than their traditional depictions in other media. Call of Duty: WWII is due to release on November 3rd for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

At this stage, it isn't clear exactly what content the Ataribox will actually offer, though the company has said it will release classic games alongside a new selection of titles. Atari hasn't talked about price, date, or specs at this point, though, but it says the Ataribox "will be delivering classic gaming content, [as well as] current gaming content". However, Atari also wants to release "current content" too, which could mean any number of things.
