Azad, after attending the all-party meeting called by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) here, said that China is a matter of national security and hence, it should be discussed in both Houses of the parliament. The government has closed all doors for dialogue on Kashmir "which has led to political suffocation in the valley", Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said. He also observed that the differences with China over Kashmir had become a new focal point.

According to Kumar, Modi told the all-party meeting that while Indians believe that the cow is like our mother, that does not let people take the law into their own hands.

"Strict action should be taken by the state governments against those who are violating law in the name of cow protection", he reportedly said in his address to an all-party meeting a day before a new session of parliament commences in India.

The opposition parties are set to contest the government over increasing incidents of lynching and deteriorating internal security situation, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, besides economic issues and farm distress in the ensuring weeks. "He would have never approved of cow vigilantism".

"I hope the same GST spirit prevails in the session". The Opposition parties are expected to raise some questions, though they may not be very aggressive in their strategy on the issue. Modi said: "GST shows the good that can be achieved when all parties come together and work for the nation".

To counter the opposition's onslaught, the government is also gearing up.

To preserve institutions of democracy, Modi said it was important that all political parties support the government to conduct business in Parliament without disruption so that constructive discussion can take place on issues of national importance. The session which will continue till August 11.

"We must not let India be held hostage to those who wish to impose upon it a narrow-minded, divisive and communal vision".

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said 21 bills were pending in the Lok Sabha and 42 in the Rajya Sabha. A total of 18 bills has been listed for passage in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
