North Korea Fires Missile Into Japanese Waters

North Korea Fires Missile Into Japanese Waters

On July 4, North Korea conducted its first-ever successful launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that Washington said can likely carry a nuclear warhead and threaten the United States.

An initial assessment shows that North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Friday that traveled 620 miles horizontally into the Sea of Japan, a USA official said.

US media reported this week that the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Pentagon spy agency, had assessed that North Korea would be able to field a nuclear-capable ICBM by next year, earlier than previously thought.

"The US Department of Defence detected and tracked a single North Korea missile launch today", said spokesperson captain Jeff Davis.

The missile was sacked from central North Korea around 11:42 p.m. Friday and flew for 45 minutes, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told reporters.

Japanese officials said the missile flew for 45 minutes and reached an altitude of more than 1,860 miles (nearly 3,000 km).

According to the Japanese national broadcaster NHK, the missile landed in the Sea of Japan (East Sea).

Following a meeting of South Korea's National Security Council, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he wanted the U.N. Security Council to discuss new and stronger sanctions against the North, the presidential Blue House said.

Scaramucci threats, insults inflame fierce White House fight
In Thursday's interview with CNN, he compared the relationship to that of Cain and Abel, the biblical sons of Adam and Eve. Asked why he thought the report had been leaked illegally, Scaramucci responded by text: "They aren't in process yet".

Pyongyang usually conducted such tests shortly after dawn, not late at night, and had not previously launched a missile from Chagang province.

Coming out strongly against North Korea's military activity, Suga said that the launch was in clear violation of United Nations resolutions.

Milley said should the USA got to war against North Korea, Kim Jong Un's military would be "utterly" destroyed.

He added that North Korea's military threat is "the one thing I'm anxious about". USA officials believed the launch date would be Thursday-the 64th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended fighting in the Korean War.

US and South Korean militaries staged a "joint ballistic missile exercise" in response to the North Korean launch.

Experts say the test puts much of the US within the North's range. The North and South Koreans are still technically in a state of war.

Upon completing a two-month North Korea policy review in April, the Trump administration announced it would pursue a strategy of "maximum pressure" on Pyongyang in an attempt to counter its nuclear and missile programs through sanctions, diplomatic means, and military options.

Beijing offered no immediate reaction but Lü Chao, a Chinese North Korea expert, told the state-run Global Times newspaper that his government would "firmly oppose the launch since it intensified regional tension ... and jeopardised the situation in north-east Asia".
