Gov. LePage Declares War on Media

Gov. Paul LePage lashed out at the media for reporting he planned to leave the state during a budget impasse, and he suggested he sometimes concocts stories to mislead reporters.

ME media, citing lawmakers, reported recently that LePage might leave the state amid a government shutdown. Roger Katz, a Republican, told the Press Herald.

She said "the governor's participation in the legislative process become less and less relevant as he heads into his a year ago of government" before he leaves office in early 2019.

The media reported LePage was going on a ten-day vacation, despite his spokesperson saying that was false, and "100% fake news". And the press just ran.

The voicemail was notable because it showed, his own words, that the Governor planned to leave the state for 10 days, a fact which he had previously denied.

Paul LePage (R) has a striking track record for inflammatory and offensive rhetoric, much of it directed at the media. "I mean, they are just so stupid, it's very bad".

The United Nations issued a statement condemning the country's current policies and pressuring El Salvador to change its laws. Amnesty International reports that the hospital that received her reported the stillbirth to authorities.

Before he signed the budget on Monday, LePage praised the loyal House Republicans for holding up two budget deals before that by withholding needed two-thirds majorities, saying they "held together and controlled the majority" and "kicked butt".

LePage has said he doesn't read newspapers - so how would he know?

He continued, "I'll tell you, the sooner the print press goes away, the better society will be".

His office didn't immediately respond Thursday to further questions about the governor's comments.

"The governor's comment that society would be better off without a free press ought to scare the hell out of anyone with even a vague knowledge of history", he said.
