Debate continues for Republican party to repeal and replace Obamacare

Dick Durbin said Congressional Republicans seem to be falling apart in their efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and it's time to let Democrats come to the table to help fix the ailing health care system.

McConnell said that the text of a revised version of the bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act will be released on Thursday morning and that he would like to have the legislation scored and approved by the end of next week. If three of the 52 GOP Senators oppose the bill, it will fail in the Senate.

Republican leadership says a historic obstruction by the Democrats to confirm President Donald Trump's cabinet nominees is the main thing stalling their legislative work.

The Senate has chose to work through two weeks of their August recess because they say they have too much to get done with not enough working days in Washington left before the fiscal year ends.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he hoped Congress could vote to raise the debt limit before lawmakers leave for the August recess.

DAVIS: You know, if they want to pass legislation that would affect the individual market, it would mean that Republicans have to then turn to Democrats to get the votes. "If you were going to school and you were getting failing grades in your spring semester, you better stay in school for the summer and go to summer school, not take a recess", he added.

Flash flood watch in effect
Weather Service meteorologists say Doppler radar showed thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area around 6 p.m. Madison had plenty of rain Wednesday morning, but only seven-tenths of an inch was recorded at the airport.

While some Republican leaders are pushing for a vote on the bill as early as next week, issues like coverage requirements and cuts to Medicaid could delay a vote. Yet getting the Better Care Reconciliation Act through the chamber, where the Republicans now enjoy a slim two-vote majority, has proved tough for majority leader Mitch McConnell.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, was forced to postpone a vote the original GOP Senate health care plan because he lacked the votes to pass it.

"Here's a simple answer: why don't we get together?"

"The next election is probably what's going to cause them to veer back towards the middle and look for changes in the ACA rather than outright repeal or a repeal with a delay in order to affect policy changes", McConnell said. "Or maybe the GOP would support an iPhone stabilization fund to lower the price of phones", Paul wrote.

"The president basically said at the first of the year that there were four major priorities this year".

Indivisible groups in Baton Rouge and New Orleans have hosted town halls that they have invited Kennedy to attend but he hasn't appeared, Cornelius said.
