Canada's Trudeau meets tiny namesake, the son of refugees

The Syrian family are not the only ones to name their baby after the Canadian prime minister.

The baby, named Justin-Trudeau Adam Bilal, met the prime minister at an event in Calgary on Saturday. The family left Syria about six years ago and settled in Canada in February 2016. After learning Canada was starting to take in Syrian refugees after Mr Trudeau became Prime Minister, they jumped at the chance to leave.

In the photos, the 45-year-old Canadian leader was seen looking on smiling as the baby - the son of Syrian refugees Afraa Hajj Hammoud and Mohammed Belal - slept soundly in his arms.

Over 40,000 Syrian refugees have been resettled in Canada - the commitment to bringing them to Canada was one of Trudeau's first actions after winning the federal election. Canada's Justin Trudeau gave his answer.

Ms Hammoud told CBC it was an wonderful experience to meet the man who inspired their son's name and who made their new life possible.

He stated that they are now focused on bringing Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 to the Switch first before moving on to the next project. During the tournament, Hiroki commented on the possibility of the game being released on the Nintendo Switch .

"He said, "this is Justin-Trudeau, ' and then he says, 'I appreciate that you named him after my name".

'It will be a big story because you know, the Arabic name and the English name, there is a big difference, ' she said.

'In Syria we name the boys like the parents, like my father's name or my husband's father's name, but now it's by appreciation for Justin Trudeau, we name him like this'.

Mr Trudeau is known for his welcoming immigration policies.
