United States troops wounded in apparent insider attack at Afghan base

An Afghan soldier opened fire on American soldiers on Saturday, injuring at least seven, the United States military said.

Abdul Qahar Araam, spokesman for the U.S. military, said on Saturday that the attack took place at Camp Shaheen in Mazar-e Sharif.

Both Afghan and USA officials have said the incident is under investigation.

The attack was reportedly by an afghan Soldier and it is termed as a insider act. There were no USA fatalities.

According to the Long War Journal, the total number of Coalition deaths from green-on-blue attacks since January 1, 2008 is 152. That was one of the deadliest Taliban attacks on an Afghan army base to date.

On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that the Pentagon plans on sending an additional 4,000 US troops to the country for the goal of training and advising Afghan forces and taking part in counterinsurgency operations against Taliban and Islamic State group militants. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack, which unfolded on June 10 in eastern Afghanistan.

Putin: US always interfered in Russian elections, especially in 2012
Putin said that a slump in oil prices had been a more important factor in Russia's economic slowdown than the sanctions. Mr Putin stressed that the economy was now back to growth, though, and said maintaining that trend was his priority.

The Taliban in Afghanistan stormed a regional police headquarters following a suicide auto bombing on Sunday killing at least five officers, officials have confirmed.

Camp Shaheen, where the 209th Corps is based, was also the site of a large Taliban attack in April that inflicted heavy casualties among Afghan troops. The gunman was eventually killed later in the afternoon, he said. Earlier announcements by Afghan Army spokesperson Abdul Qahar Araam claimed that an Afghan soldier had shot and killed four US soldiers inside the base.

In a statement Wednesday, Mattis said that "this administration will not repeat the mistakes of the past".

Sunday's attack came a day after an Afghan commando fired on USA troops, wounding seven American soldiers.

Ghani said the aim of the route was to create more opportunities and make Afghanistan an exporter country. He had initially announced that three USA soldiers had been wounded.

"About 6.20am a martyr attack was conducted by our mujahideen against a special forces base in Gardez, Paktia", spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
