Police carried out fresh raids and arrested "a number of people" on Monday after the Islamic State group claimed an attack by three men who mowed down and stabbed revellers in London, killing seven people before being shot dead by officers.

Cops named Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, and Rachid Redouane, 30, as two of the men shot dead by police during the Saturday rampage, in which a trio of terrorists rammed a crowd with a van before attacking others with knives.

"I urge anyone with information about these men, their movements before the attack and where they frequented to come forward", Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said.

Meanwhile British counter-terrorism investigators on Monday searched homes and detained more people.

Two of the London Bridge attackers have been named by Scotland Yard.

"Violence can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic process", May, who served as interior minister from 2010 to 2016, said outside her Downing Street office on Sunday.

"Additionally, there are around 20,000 individuals who are former subjects of interest, whose risk remains subject to review by MI5 and its partners", he said.

The U.K. authorities have confirmed they know the identities of the three men involved in the attack.

The governing Conservatives and the main opposition Labour party suspended national campaign events for the day, but May insisted the election would go ahead as planned on Thursday.

But with Britons due to vote in a national election on Thursday, her decision to reduce the number of police officers in England and Wales by nearly 20,000 during her six years as interior minister from 2010 to 2016 shot to the top of the political agenda.

Death toll rises to 100 in Sri Lanka's floods, landslides
As the death toll rose, the government appealed to the United Nations and to neighbouring countries for assistance. One of the worst affected areas was the south-western district of Kalutara.

The news raises questions about the police's judgment and increases pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May, who three days before a national election is facing criticism for overseeing cuts to police during her years as interior minister.

"There's an election on Thursday, that's the chance", he said, citing an "appalling" cut in police staffing levels.

"No reason to be alarmed", Khan said, describing a more visible presence as "one of things the police and all of us need to do to make sure we are as safe as we possibly can be".

May said Corbyn is unable to guarantee Britain's security at a time of such increased threats.

A vigil was held near Tower Bridge on Monday evening.

Khan and Police Commissioner Cressida Dick Friday toured the site of the attack and praised the quick police work that they said prevented further deaths.

Salahudeen said the man used to wear ankle-length camouflage pants - similar to the ones seen in a picture of one of the bodies of the three attackers shot dead by police on Saturday night.

In an appearance on NBC's "Today Show", Conway said people should pay attention to what the president is doing, saying people in England had tried to inform authorities about the terrorists before the attacks happened.

The trio's brutal assault on people in London Bridge left seven dead and 48 injured.

"One is around three years old and the girl was just born two weeks ago", he said, adding that he would see him carrying the boy on his shoulders and playing football in the park.
