Trump pushes infrastructure plan as Russian Federation probe heats up

"That's why they lost the House, it's why they lost the Senate, it's why they lost the White House".

Trump said he saw first-hand during his time on the campaign trail, crumbling infrastructure, and met with communities who are desperate for new roads and new bridges.

The president proposes allocating $200 billion in federal funding over 10 years to spur at least an additional $800 billion in spending by states, municipalities and the private sector.

But what barges on the nation's major rivers are finding, Trump said, "is a dilapidated system of locks and dams that are over 50 years old and in serious decay".

"We spend trillions and trillions of dollars outside of our nation, but we can't build a road, a highway, a tunnel, a bridge in our own nation and we watch everything falling into disrepair", Trump said.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Cleveland Democrat, also sent a letter Wednesday to Trump, writing he shares the president's "goal of promoting economic and national security and supporting the American manufacturing and the U.S. defense industrial base".

Trump's constant criticism of America's trade policies was a top reason he won the presidency, appealing to working class voters in the rust-belt states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and MI.

The White House arranged a Wednesday trip to OH, the kind of place Trump loves to visit: It's a battleground Rust Belt state that helped put him in the White House.

"He's traveling, staying on schedule, continuing to do meetings heavily focused on infrastructure and not letting anything, whether it is this or anything else, distract him from pushing forward on the big priorities that he's laid out in his presidency". The House's plan to phase it out is a 'very bad idea, ' he said.

"Hopefully, that will be the beginning to the end of this disgusting, terrible situation the world is suffering through right now", Trump said. "We've had no help, we will get no votes [from them]", Trump said before the media, adding that even if Republicans presented the greatest plan "in history" Democrats would still vote against it. I'd be doing positive things. It came as he discussed his approval of the once-stalled Dakota Access pipeline. "And I just closed my eyes and said, do it", Trump said, adding, "It's up, it's running, it's attractive, it's great, everybody's happy, the sun is still shining, the water's clean". "I just closed my eyes and said 'do it.' When I approved it, I thought I'd take a lot of heat".
