Trump lawyer: President not under investigation in Russian Federation probe

Sekulow's comments, in an interview with "Face the Nation", came after Mr. Trump slammed reports that FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reviewing whether or not Mr. Trump tried to obstruct justice amid ongoing investigations into any ties between his presidential campaign's or transition's associates and the Russian government.

The lawyer, Jay Sekulow, contended the tweet was not a confirmation of the investigation, but instead a response to a report in The Washington Post.

Pressed by Wallace to account for the apparent contradiction, a clearly upset Sekulow subsequently accused Wallace of "putting words in my mouth", and insisted again, "Let me be crystal clear so you completely understand: We have not received, nor are we aware of any investigation of the president of the United States. Because the special counsel, under the special counsel regulations, reports still to the Department of Justice, not an independent counsel", Sekulow said.

During an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" Jay Sekulow, a member of Trump's legal team, said the president was specifically tweeting about the reports that he was under investigation and insisted that Trump had not been notified of any investigation.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel following Comey's ouster in early May.

"I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" The message apparently referred to Rosenstein, whose role leading the federal investigation has become increasingly complicated.

"This is the first time the president's overall approval rating has hit the 50% mark since late April", the site states. The president takes action based on numerous events, including recommendations from his attorney general and the deputy attorney general's office. "I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", he said.

Bailey, in crutches, appeared at Thursday's congressional charity baseball game to throw out the ceremonial first pitch . Police said it was unclear whether James Hodgkinson planned to target the lawmakers on his list, which included Reps.

Even Trump's most ardent defenders don't claim that he is a constitutional scholar - House Speaker Paul Ryan has suggested that the bar should be lower for Trump in terms of his behavior because of his lack of expertise - but Sekulow went on to suggest that the president's tweet about being under investigation was trying to call attention to a question of constitutional law.

"Not only do I believe it, I know it".

The Secret Service has said it has no records of any recording systems or transcripts of any conversations Mr. Trump may have had in the White House. Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said on ABC's "This Week" that the panel is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.

The panel sent a bipartisan letter this month to White House counsel Don McGahn seeking an answer by this Friday. Meanwhile, the Congressional committees handling the Russian Federation probe have asked the administration to show any evidence and Comey himself as said he hopes there are tapes.

But the President is yet to heed that advice, tweeting on Sunday: "The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt".

"As he helped introduce Trump here Friday on a podium bearing the presidential seal, Rubio spoke in a volume and cadence reminiscent of the speeches he delivered as a candidate for president", the Post reported. "He is infuriated, and legitimately, in my judgment, by this whole Russian baloney". During a less-than-effective attempt to explain his legal theory for why Trump would have a right to be upset should the Department of Justice investigate him for following their advice to fire Comey, Sekulow seemed to admit that the president was, in fact, under investigation.
