Trump lashes out at 'bad,' 'conflicted' Russia investigators

President Donald Trump is blasting reports he's being probed for possible obstruction of justice.

The investigations, however, have cast a shadow over his five-month presidency. The order also covers separate inquiries into several key Trump associates including former national security adviser Michael Flynn, campaign adviser Paul Manafort, foreign policy aide Carter Page and outside adviser Roger Stone. It is my view that fully investigating the facts, circumstances, and rationale for Mr Comey's removal will provide us the opportunity to do that on a cooperative, bipartisan basis, " according to the letter.

CNN is suing the Justice Department for copies of fired FBI Director James Comey's personal memos on his interactions with President Donald Trump. However, President Trump was talked out of firing Mueller.

Mark Carallo, a spokesman for Trump's attorney Marc Kasowitz, questioned the legality of the leaking information about the investigation, calling it "outrageous, inexcusable and illegal" in a statement to TIME.

Also Wednesday, Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley said his panel will investigate the removal of former FBI Director James Comey and "any alleged improper partisan interference in law enforcement investigations".

Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel by the Justice Department after Mr Comey's sacking.

Mueller has requested interviews with senior intelligence officials about their conversations with Trump in an effort to investigate possible obstruction of justice, a former senior intelligence official with knowledge of the discussions confirmed to NBC News. McCabe was referring to the agency's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

At a hearing last week of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Mr Coats and Mr Rogers refused to say whether they were asked by Mr Trump to help impede an FBI investigation and suggested any response in a closed hearing would require consultations with White House lawyers on whether executive privilege should be invoked.

Before Trump was elected president, he often criticized Clinton - then his Democratic opponent - for the investigation into her use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State. Though just over half of Americans say they disapprove of Trump's firing of Comey, the number grows to 79 percent among Democrats.

Mr Comey also testified he had told Mr Trump he was not under investigation.

In general, 29 percent of Americans say they have a great deal of confidence in the people running the Federal Bureau of Investigation. According to Politico, the specifics of Mueller's investigation, including whether he is investigating Trump for potential obstruction of justice, were not discussed. That list could very well end up including the president's own son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

"The way it was described to us, is a file has been opened on the president for the first time that is looking at him for obstruction - potentially for obstruction of justice". He's also hired Andrew Weissmann, who led the Enron investigation.

Justice Department policy is that a sitting president can not be indicted by a grand jury, the Post also reported Wednesday. However, Congress could review any findings of wrongdoing and decide to move forward with the impeachment process.
