TN Governor refers DMK's memorandum to Speaker, Chief Secretary

The Raj Bhavan statement said DMK working president and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly M K stalin had led a delegation to Rao on Saturday.

A recent "sting operation" carried out by a TV channel, had purportedly showed Saravanan making claims of horse- trading ahead of the crucial February 18 trust vote, which was won by Chief Minister K Palaniswami amid a split in his party, the AIADMK.

After the meeting, she met reporters and said, "For the benefits of farmers, the central government has come up with six developmental projects".

Hitting out at DMK for the behaviour of its MLAs on February 18 last when the trust vote was taken up in the Assembly, the Minister said people despised the main opposition party for it.

But none of the demands were heeded to, he said.

In the sting operation, two AIADMK legislators belonging to rival factions - S.S. Saravanan (AIADMK-PTA) and R. Kanagaraj (AIADMK Amma) - are heard claiming that huge money and even gold was offered to MLAs to win their support for the Sasikala faction following the rebellion by former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

However, the Raj Bhavan noted that all three requests that Stalin made to the governor in his memorandum were matters that are already pending before the Madras High Court, indicating that the complaint being forwarded for appropriate action could well be a formality.

The move comes after Stalin's repeated plea to discuss the matter in the legislative assembly was turned down by Speaker P Dhanapal.

The video-footage of the "sting" operation "reveal that the vote of confidence was vitiated by inducements and bribery of the AIADMK MLAs", he alleged. "It will not come true". The opposition parties apart from seeking a CBI probe have also asked for a fresh Vote of Confidence in the assembly.

The governor should also direct an investigation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence or ED "to unearth the money trail and to investigate the offences under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act", Stalin added.

Stalin was accompanied by party legislators, including senior leader Durai Murugan.
