Prosecutors rest case in Cosby sex assault trial

He contends the sexual encounter was consensual. In it, Cosby confessed to giving Constand pills - he says it was merely Benadryl, though Cosby has previously admitted to buying quaaludes, a much stronger sedative, as part of a plan to seduce women - and to "necking" and "petting". The defence will begin presenting its side on Monday. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 to 30 years in prison. He then waved from the back of an SUV.

The 79-year-old entertainer is charged with drugging and molesting a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

Cosby, who was in court today as he has been each day of the trial and most of the pre-trial hearings, has always insisted the encounter with Constand was consensual. He also said he never took the drugs himself. His spokesman says it's under consideration.

Under a Pennsylvania law enacted after the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse case, prosecutors are allowed to use an expert to explain victim behavior in sexual assault cases.

RadarOnline.com has learned Cosby's lawyers are now debating whether to call the 79-year-old comedian to the stand in his own defense.

Prosecutors plan to close their case Friday afternoon after five days of testimony. There's still a chance Cosby could testify at the trial.

"I apologized", Cosby had said, his words also being projected for the courtroom on a large screen. Prosecutors have suggested he could have.

He said: "I didn't want to talk about what did you give her".

In the deposition, he admits giving quaaludes before sex in 1976 to one of his approximately 60 accusers.

A federal judge's decision to unseal Cosby's deposition in 2015 prompted prosecutors in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to reopen the case and later bring charges just before the statute of limitations expired.

More of the deposition Cosby gave in the 2005 lawsuit filed by accuser Andrea Constand was read today in Cosby's criminal trial on allegations that he drugged and sexually assaulted Constand in 2004.

She said he gave her three blue pills to help with stress, assured her they were "herbal" and then groped her breasts, put his hand in her trousers and forced her to masturbate him while she lay incapacitated on a couch inside his suburban Philadelphia mansion. She said she has neither bias against or toward Cosby. McMonagle asked Dr. Veronique Valliere during her testimony.

Cosby's defense team tried claimed "mistrial" after that witness spoke and they questioned her integrity, but the judge dismissed it.

Cosby's lawyers say Valliere's past social-media posts have shown a pro-prosecution bias.

When she asked if they were herbal, he nodded, she told jurors. She testified that victims of celebrities are often frightened to come forward because of the backlash. After "necking" on the couch, Cosby went to bed and Constand slept on the couch.

Earlier Cosby told the court he apologised to Ms Constand's family because her mother thought he was "a dirty old man", according to testimony read to the jury.

The lengthy deposition transcript, which prosecutors displayed on large courtroom screens, offers a granular look at how Cosby deals with crises.

But Costand has testified that after she took the pills she felt frozen, and could not stop Cosby as he sexually assaulted her.

During a transcript of a phone call that was recorded by Constand's mother, Cosby turned defensive.

The New York Timesreported on Friday, however, that a spokesperson said Cosby may, in fact, testify.

The defense attorney, on the other hand, asked jurors to "be the juror you would be if this was your own grandfather", Allyn reports, and pointed to apparent inconsistencies in Constand's statements to suggest that she couldn't be trusted.

Defense attorney Brian McMonagle arrives at the Montgomery County Courthouse on June 9, 2017, for the fifth day of Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial. Earlier in the week, Keshia Knight-Pulliam, who played the youngest daughter, Rudy, on "The Cosby Show, " attended in support of Cosby.
