Pakistan wins Champions Trophy, crushes archrival India

It was all a far cry from the Asian giants' opening group match at Edgbaston on June 4 where Pakistan slumped to 164 all out in a thumping 124-run defeat by India.

Defending champions India proved no match for Pakistan on Sunday, losing the much-awaited final game of the Champions Trophy by 180 runs at The Oval in London.

Fakhar hit 12 fours and three sixes before skying a catch off Hardik Pandya but Pakistan, who upset hosts England in the semifinals, had the flawless platform to make the highest total in a Champions Trophy final.

The left-arm paceman dismissed Rohit Sharma, skipper Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

Fakhar Zaman (114 from 142 balls) hit the first ODI century of his career to help the underdogs thrash bitter rivals India by 180 runs in Sunday's final at The Oval. The south Asian nation claimed their third ICC tournament, having earlier won the 50-over World Cup in 1992 and the World Twenty20 in 2009. Talking about his bowlers, Kohli said, "With the ball, we could have had more wicket-taking opportunities".

India replied with a paltry 158 all-out in 30.3 overs.

An elated Sarfraz added: "After the India match when we lost in the group stage, I told my boys the tournament hadn t finished yet". They batted really well today.

Earlier also, several times chaos has been witnessed in this area after India-Pakistan match, but this is the first time when the government has imposed restriction in the area.

India has been the most successful team in the Champions Trophy history with this being the fourth final for the side.

Pakistan's victory against India was as spectacular as their campaign in the tournament.

It appeared India, chasing 339 to win, had had a lucky break when Kohli, the world's leading one-day global batsman, was dropped on five by first slip Azhar Ali off Amir.

Even Golden Bat victor Shikhar Dhawan couldn't resist Amir's persistent accuracy, edging through outside off-stump, and when teenage spinner Shadab Khan successfully convinced Sarfraz Ahmed to review a "not out" lbw decision against Yuvraj Singh India's hopes were fading fast at 54-4.

All three were gone after nine overs, five of them fierce seam bowling by Mohammad Amir, who was passed fit to play after missing the surprise semifinal victory over England because of a back spasm.

India should have had a wicket when Fakhar was caught behind off Jasprit Bumrah on three.
