Mohammad Hafeez: Champions Trophy triumph is for all of Pakistan

After the top batting order collapsed miserably to Pakistan's pace attack - led by Mohammed Amir - early in the game, Pakistan's victory seemed a given.

Two mainstream newspapers, Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Reader had a similar headline.

Leading the batting for the young Pakistan side - which had fallen easily to India by 124 runs in a group stage match on June 6 - was 27-year-old Fakhar Zaman who recorded his maiden century in only his fourth global innings.

The Rising Kashmir had a headline on the front page, "Crackers go off as Pak pulls off stunning win over India". "You will have to accept the loss because the other team has outplayed you in every department of the game", said the India captain after the final.

Pakistan's Sarfraz Ahmed lifts the trophy as Pakistan players celebrate their win at the presentation after the ICC Champions Trophy final cricket match between India and Pakistan at The Oval in London on June 18, 2017.

After Pakistan clinched their maiden ICC Champions Trophy crown, former skipper Shahid Afridi on Monday rated his side as one of the serious contenders for the 50-over World Cup title, to be played in England and Wales in 2019.

"The whole group kept believing".

"What I do know is that Mohammad Amir, he's a big match player", said South African Arthur.

Pakistan crush India by 180 runs to lift Champions Trophy
Mohammad Hafeez hailed Pakistan's team spirit as the key to their stunning Champions Trophy final triumph against India . Amir bowled brilliantly but all my bowlers bowled really well.

"With the ball we could have had a few more wicket-taking opportunities throughout the innings", he added.

He removed India's top three batsmen-Rohit Sharma (0), Shikhar Dhawan (21) and Kohli (5). "Hopefully all countries will now visit Pakistan", he said.

Pakistan, due to security reasons, currently can't host worldwide cricket, but is now the ICC Champions Trophy holder, a feat that has far-reaching implications. Amir bowled brilliantly but all my bowlers bowled really well. "They have been brilliant, and my fellow coaching staff and management team have been fantastic, as well", a sense of satisfaction was palpable in his voice.

Dhawan and Hassan had already won the Golden Bat and the Gold Ball trophies for finishing as the most successful batsman and bowler, respectively.

"They [Pakistan] had an wonderful tournament, the way they turned things around, speak volumes for the talent they have".

"Rarely have I seen Pakistan deliver such a clinical performance in a tournament decider and annihilating hot favourite India came as a pleasant surprise", he added.

"I wish our hockey team all the best".
