London fire: Queen Elizabeth issues somber message after site visit

They would wear high-visibility clothing so they could easily be found, dispense advice and ensure the right support is provided, she added.

Mohammed, whose apartment is opposite the tower, had friends who lived in Grenfell's upper stories.

Hammond told a weekly BBC politics show that a criminal investigation will examine whether building regulations had been breached when the block was renovated.

Experts say the cladding and the insulation it contained seems to have spread the flames quickly along the exterior of the building, overwhelming safety devices like fire doors. Attention has focused on materials used during the renovation process completed previous year.

Greg Hands told Sky News that "my understanding is that the cladding that was reported was not in accordance with United Kingdom building regulations".

The tower underwent refurbishment by construction firm, Rydon, in 2016, and it has since emerged that a cheaper, more flammable version of the exterior cladding was used in the work.

One opposition lawmaker urged the Conservative government and police to immediately seize all documents related to the tower renovation.

In this photo released by the Metropolitan Police on Sunday, June 18, 2017, burnt out lifts on an undisclosed floor, in the Grenfell Tower after fire engulfed the 24-storey building, in London. The group left after a meeting that lasted more than two hours but did not speak to reporters gathered outside.

Of the 58, he said the number of confirmed fatalities in Wednesday's inferno remains at 30. He has not provided details about the inquiry.

58 people in London apartment are missing and presumed dead in fire
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince William visited an aid distribution site Friday for the tower's residents and met with volunteers. The queen's official birthday is marked in June when the weather is often nicer than in April, the actual month of her birth.

Condoling the incident earlier, Londor Mayor Sadiq Khan said, "The bad news, I'm afraid, is lots of people died in the fire".

Police said they are using the INTERPOL Disaster Victim Identification Standards to identify the deceased. A solemn Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip held a minute of silence for the fire victims at the start of the procession Saturday.

The announcement comes as the government is accused of failing to improve fire safety in buildings, like Grenfell Tower, despite warnings.

They say their complaints were ignored - and fear it was because the tower was full of poor people in a hugely wealthy neighborhood.

Mrs May, criticised in the first few days after the blaze for failing to meet the victims, said the public inquiry looking into the tragedy will report directly to her.

She says she will receive daily reports from the stricken neighbourhood, where hundreds of people have been displaced.

All of those living in the apartment block who survived the blaze were made homeless by the tragedy, and many have lost loved ones as a result.

The mayor of London Sadiq Khan has said the Grenfell Tower disaster was a effect of years of neglect by politicians.

Asked about the number of dead, he said he hoped the death toll would not reach "triple figures" and indicated a criminal investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
