Letter to the editor: Paris Accord should be improved upon

Delattre said Trump's decision "goes beyond climate change policy" and is a "factor in the erosion of the moral and political leadership of the United States".

The United States joins Syria, Nicaragua & Russia in deciding not to participate with world's Paris Agreement. "We also need to be first when it comes to creating solutions".

Hawaii is joined by many other USA states and localities to declare that the Paris agreement would be honoured, with many governors and mayors signing executive orders or pledging to continue the fight.

Last week, several state governors and dozens of mayors across the US pledged to uphold the guidelines set forth in the Paris Accord following President Donald Trump's announcement that he was removing the USA from the agreement.

While Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was critical of the deal for not making developed countries shoulder more of the burden, following Trump's withdrawal he vowed to "continue working. above and beyond the Paris accord". More than two dozen other states, mostly in the country's middle, already had been fighting stepped-up federal emissions-cutting programs before Trump's announcement.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman described Trump's decision as "the height of egotism" on Tuesday and said it was an example of the United States "seeking only their own well-being".

Trump's decision to leave the Paris accord has drawn heavy criticism within the US and internationally, including in China.

Identities of two London Bridge attackers revealed
Scotland Yard says he also used the name Rachid Elkhdar, as well as a different date of birth which made him five years younger. Police said they were still working to establish the identity of the third attacker.

President Donald Trump may have said "no" to the Paris accord, but American companies aren't ready to do so.

The support from local governments, public institutions and businesses show that climate change efforts are getting something they have long lacked in the U.S. — vocal and enthusiastic support, said William K. Reilly, a former chief of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, who is not involved in the alliances. China is by far the world's largest user of coal, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of its energy use and has made it the number one emitter of climate-changing greenhouse gases.

What's left for us to learn is whether Trump will take any action against this growing movement.
