Guentzel shines again as Pens surge to Game Two win

Rookie Jake Guentzel scored twice and the Pittsburgh Penguins exploded for three goals in the third period Wednesday in a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators in the NHL Stanley Cup finals. He has scored every important goal of the Stanley Cup final and has led the charge for a quick-strike team that, despite being outshot 64-39 in the first two games of the Stanley Cup final, finds itself with an nearly inexplicable 2-0 lead.

Prosecutors are dropping charges filed against a Tennessee man for throwing a catfish onto the rink in Pittsburgh during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Pekka Rinne was a Conn Smythe success story in the making, the reason he and the Predators are making their first Stanley Cup Final appearance together.

It's not much. Unless you're playing the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In Game 1, it came down to Pittsburgh being able to beat Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne four times on 11 shots (the Penguins also had an empty-net goal). And Jake Guentzel, hydroplaning a juicy rebound into a virtually empty net, becoming only the second rookie ever with a dozen goals in a single postseason.

He now leads the National Hockey League with 12 goals this postseason (three more than any other player) and an nearly unbelievable five game-winning goals.

"It's very disappointing. I treat this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity", Rinne said. "But we know the ultimate goal is two more wins and they're going to be tough to get".

If the Predators don't get it together back home in "Smashville", it might only be two. In all four previous games after losses this postseason, Rinne had allowed four total goals - one in each.

Country singer Alan Jackson - Mr. It's Five O'clock Somewhere - will play a free live concert outside the arena before Game 3, where the Predators are 7-1 in these playoffs.

"I just tried to make the next save, tried to hold them off as long as possible", Murray said.

"Maybe we just need some consistency", Predators coach Peter Laviolette.

LeBron James' house spray-painted with a racial slur, police say
Focusing specifically on Game 1 of the NBA Finals over the past 26 years, the Under has been a profitable 9-15-1 O/U since 1991. Despite his impressive lack of human qualities, the reality is there is only one LeBron, and he can't play all 48 minutes.

They're not the only city to have an odd tradition though: Detroit fan throw octopuses onto the ice during Red Wings games. If the Penguins continue to steamroll their way through the final, the only thing that might prevent Guentzel from breaking both the overall goals and points records would be a dearth of games.

An unheralded third round pick who grew up in Minnesota, Guentzel also sits directly to Crosby's left in the Penguins dressing room, a purposeful move by head coach Mike Sullivan, who likes his rookies to watch and learn from the captain. He speaks a little bit of Russian, but I play with some Russians too.

"He seems pretty calm and cool on the outside", said Sidney Crosby, whose locker is next to Guentzel's.

In Game 1, the Penguins had gone 37 minutes - including the entire second period - without a shot. Last season, Murray started 21 playoff games, finishing the championship run with a.923 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average. Scott Wilson (3:13) and Evgeni Malkin (3:28) followed with goals to chase starting goalie Pekka Rinne.

"I thought the one thing that they did well was they pressured Nashville's D", Lidster said. "A goal goes in and he can play the exact same way right after that, which is hard for any goalie to do, but especially one that's still really quite young".

"We don't lose in our building", said Nashville defenceman P.K. Subban, who fought Evgeni Malkin in the third period. Analyzing Game 1 specifically is more hard.

NOTES: Penguins C Matt Cullen left in the first period briefly after being hit from behind into the boards by Predators D Matt Irwin.

That was not the end of the Penguins' quick start in the period, however.

"Even with them crashing the net, he's been phenomenal", said Penguins forward Chris Kunitz.

Guentzel tied it later in the period, planting his 5-foot-11 frame at the post, where he jabbed a backhand rebound to tie it.

Murray, meanwhile, made 37 saves Wednesday and has stopped 60 of 64 in the series.
