Ford Replaces CEO In Push To Transform Business

A statement released by Ford talked of "transforming" and "strategic processes" and "nimbleness" that will arrive as part of Hackett's promotion in his short-lived time at Ford; he has been a board member since 2013 and in 2016 was appointed chairman of the newly formed Ford Smart Mobility division, targeted at taking advantage of a shift towards vehicle sharing and different ownership models.

According to a report from Forbes, the change is because Executive Chairman Bill Ford, Jr. and the rest of the board have lost confidence in Fields' leadership capabilities. Over his 28-year career Fields held a number of titles with increasing responsibility and emerged as the heir apparent to former CEO Alan Mulally several years before he retired.

At the time, Fields said that Ford had held back on talking about autonomous vehicles because the company was "not in a race to make announcements".

Hackett has led Ford's "smart mobility" unit, which includes self-driving cars, since March 2016.

He is perhaps best known for being named as the interim athletic director of the University of MI in October 2014, after which he hired San Francisco 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh to coach football at the alma mater of both men.

Fields retired after 28 years at the company, replaced by former Steelcase CEO Hackett, who has nearly zero experience in automobiles until he joined the company last year to head its "smart mobility" transportation initiative. Those three appointments will be effective starting June 1, 2017. And Paul Ballew has been appointed vice president chief data and analytics officer, reporting to Klevorn.

They had three early attempts on goal. "I can not explain why we played like we did in the second half". However, I remain proud of being part of this group.

But Ford's share price has sunk under Fields.

Ford earned more than $25 billion in profits in the past four years, helped largely by the surging US auto and truck market.

The Dearborn, Michigan based automotive and mobility company said the new leadership will focus on sharpening operational execution across the global business to further enhance quality, go-to-market strategy; product launch, while decisively addressing under-performing parts of the business.

The chief executive of Ford is expected to stand down from the vehicle giant.

"First of all, our buriness of making great cars and trucks, that's not going to change", Ford told WWJ's Jeff Gilbert on a conference call with reporters. He was also COO and president of the company's Americas division, having been with Ford since 1989.

Ford also named leaders to three new roles under Hackett.
