Crews continue to battle wildfire near Brian Head, Utah

The entire town of Brian Head was evacuated after a fire burned almost 957 acres near the town.

Smoke rises between the trees as a wildfire burns along State Route 143, Sunday, June 18, 2017, the primary road to the southern Utah ski town of Brian Head, Utah.

The Tribune reports that at least one home has been destroyed in the blaze, while another has sustained damage. Multiple structures and the Parowan Valley watershed are threatened. Nine hundred fifty seven acres (one acre equivalent to a football field) have burned, and 750 people have been evacuated. On Monday morning, the Great Basin Type 2 IMT assumed command, with its first priority public and firefighter safety.

Roman Polanski sex victim to appear in court for first time
The original judge in Roman Polanski's rape case promised the director he would "serve 90 days of psychiatric evaluation". Due to extradition treaties, Polanski can only travel to three countries in Europe.

Crews contained most of the fire that forced evacuations last week in the Jemez Mountains. "Fortunately, they still have homes to come back to".

CLOSURES - The community of Brian Head is still evacuated and will remain so until fire managers are sure the threat of fire impact is gone. The fire is burning on lands managed by Utah Department of Natural Resources. The Dixie National Forest has issued a road and trail closure as well to prevent the public from entering the fire area.

About 1,000 firefighters under the direction of a regional "type-II" incident management team of specialists were expected to be on the scene digging fire lines, with about a dozen aircraft, including air tankers and helicopters, also keeping flames in check.
