Connecticut's NBC station refuses to air Megyn Kelly's Alex Jones interview

An NBC-owned news station in CT will not be airing Megyn Kelly's interview with Alex Jones this Sunday. In a statement released Tuesday on Twitter, Kelly cited President Donald Trump's past praise for Jones when justifying her decision to conduct the interview.

The Hartford Courant reports that Susan Tully, the general manager of WVIT-TV, sent a memo to staff of the NBC owned and operated station, explaining the decision not to air the interview.

Over the last week, Kelly - a former Fox News anchor and current host of NBC's Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly - has been promoting her upcoming interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The WVIT viewing area includes Newtown, Conn. where 20 school children were shot and killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012.

Lawyers who represent 12 people who lost loved ones in the 2012 massacre urged NBC News officials not to air the interview. So far, he's only released snippets of a supposed conversation with Kelly, which could not be independently verified. "Over the last few days, we have listened intently to Sandy Hook parents, our viewers and importantly, to you".

Jones, who hosts an Internet radio show, bizarrely claims the parents of the victims could be actors hired to give credence to a government conspiracy to take away people's guns.

Germany in the Confederations Cup will support only 170 fans
Germany' will wear black-arm bands in Sochi to pay their respects to former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who died on Friday. The attacking midfielder has had a good six months with Paris Saint-Germain, but this will be a big test for the 23-year-old.

The audio appears to reveal Kelly assuring Jones she would not ask him any "gotcha" questions.

NBC Connecticut is committed to giving the Sandy Hook families a voice, today, tomorrow and in the future.

An interview with at least one parent of a child killed at Sandy Hook will be part of NBC's report on Sunday, according to a person familiar with the reporting who could not be identified because the person was not authorized to discuss it.

Because those wounds are understandably still so raw, we have decided not to air this week's episode of Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly.

We will continue our coverage throughout the week, including a special report on our Sunday 11 p.m. newscast after Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly.
