China receives data from first X-ray space telescope

"Black holes will be the focus of our observation since they are very interesting, and can generate various types of radiation, including X-rays and high energy cosmic rays, as well as strong jets", said Zhang. Over time, there have been incredible revelations about its structure and evolution.

China's HXMT satellite was launched earlier in the week, and hopes are that the satellite would make key discoveries in the fields of neutron star and black hole research, while also searching for more X-ray sources in the universe.

The 2.5-tonne x-ray telescope Insight was launched into orbit with altitude of 550 kilometers.

China has sent into orbit its first X-ray space telescope which will study phenomena including black holes, pulsars and gamma-ray explosions, state media reports.

Insight/HXMT comes with three instruments onboard - three individual X-ray telescopes with varying amounts of energy, namely High Energy (HE), Medium Energy (ME), and Low Energy (LE).

Lead scientist Zhang Shuangnan told reporters: 'We are looking forward to discovering new activities of black holes and studying the state of neutron stars under extreme gravity and density conditions, and physical laws under extreme magnetic fields. "These studies are expected to bring new breakthroughs in physics".

Portuguese radio says 25 people killed in forest fires
Three people were killed and over 1,000 evacuated in the Portuguese island of Madeira due to the fierce wildfires a year ago. Thirty bodies were found inside cars and nearly 20 more were found next to vehicles, Portuguese officials said.

An X-ray telescope is created to detect X-rays from sources outside the earth's atmosphere. Therefore, Insight encompasses all other technologies throughout the world thanks to its larger detection area, wider view, and broader energy range.

Specifically, Insight will seek out new black hole activity by searching the Milky Way for celestial bodies that emit X-rays. As a result, researchers will be the technology to find gamma-ray bursts, pulsars, and black holes more efficiently.

No matter how bright the sources like pulsars are, the newly launched telescope will not be blinded.

China has also scheduled a launch of the core module of its manned space station in 2019 that will get into operation by 2022. Also, another satellite owned by China-France Oceanography will be used to carry out studies on the ocean-surface waves and wind speed.

The launch on Thursday morning from a remote area in Inner Mongolia marks an important step in China's bid to advance a space program that could compete with the United States or Russian Federation, the Financial Times reported.
