Apps Can No Longer Use Custom Review Prompts; Apple Mandates Standardized Method

In the latest update to its App Store, Apple has solved the issue of in-app tipping by legalizing the feature. Meanwhile, Apple threatened to remove popular messaging app WeChat and other social platforms from the App Store if developers did not pay the fees or remove tips from their apps.

While content creators will surely feel the difference of Apple taking a 30 percent cut from tips, the legalization of the feature could mean that even more users will use the feature to send virtual gifts. Another way the apps could work on iOS 11 could be with the status bar being blackened out.

As for the individual pages of the apps, Apple has chosen to highlight reviews, placing more emphasis on Editor's Choice for instance. Having said that, a list view in the old design had more games in the initial view. The clamp-down should have a positive net effect on the App Store ecosystem.

Should mobile device users worry about ransomware-infected apps?

A big update also is the removal of Top grossing charts which acted as an index for big App intelligence firms (like AppAnnie, PrioriData) to estimate revenues from the App store - this will make studying the competition and market even more hard for developers.

Apple launched their new operating system, the iOS 11, at this year's Worldwide Developer Conference, which happened from June 5 to 9.

The new app review guidelines stipulate that developers may no longer create their own pop-ups to ask for a rating.

Moreover with the new App tab, one can get a recommendation of new Apps varying from videos to games to photography.

Subscriptions and In-App Purchases can also be purchased directly from the App Store outside the app which will be helpful for large brands on the App Store who are big on the Freemium model.

But Apple is also limiting the number of times that the rating prompt can be pushed to users.
