Admin revokes blocked program to protect immigrant parents

"DACA works, DACA helps our society and DACA helps people".

But many DACA recipients said they remain in limbo, unsure if they'll be able to set down permanent roots in a country many of them consider home.

And DHS went further, saying that individuals who were mistakenly given three-year DACA permits, rather than the usual two, as DAPA would have allowed, would have their three-year permits honored and not terminated early.

For the most part, they seem to be playing ball, praising him for the meaningless cancellation of DAPA.

The program permits undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children to remain and work without fear of deportation, barring criminal offenses.

Immigrants enrolled in the 2012 program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), will continue to be eligible to renew their status every two years.

Then, the device in question will receive a dialog box which asks it to grant the device permission to access the Wi-Fi network. However, if you want it before everyone else, you can sign up for Apple's beta program and download iOS 11 right now.

Even though DAPA wasn't in place, Trump's decision to rescind the program is concerning, Marco Grimaldo, board member of Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights, told ThinkProgress.

Bortolleto said the DACA announcement "should in no way make people think that the administration is softening their stance". Sadly, despite some promising innovations by Republican senators, the Trump administration has not shown the interest or competence in negotiating lasting fixes for the USA immigration system.

The program, which was announced by President Barack Obama in 2014, never took effect because it was blocked in a federal court. Republicans saw it as a "backdoor amnesty" and argued that Obama overstepped his authority by protecting a specific class of immigrants living in the United States illegally. The Supreme Court deadlocked, 4-4, on a challenge to that ruling, but the decision by the Trump administration officially ends the litigation.

That said, sweeping executive actions, whether by Obama or Trump, are no way to solve America's immigration problems. Based on Thursday's announcement from the Trump administration, young immigrants may now face a much different future from their parents or relatives. He added that while only Congress can decide the fate of these immigrants, Trump has said the issue needs to be handled "with compassion and with heart". Maria Cristina Garcia, professor of History and Latino studies at Cornell University, says that Trump's decision, while a relief to many DACA children, will not impact the status of their parents. On a conference call with reporters, a DHS official stressed that the directives would not affect Obama-era protections for illegal immigrants who came to the U.S.as children and others given a reprieve in 2014.

Arrests of immigrants in the interior of the country have increased under the Trump administration, but deportations are slightly down as fewer people have been caught crossing the Mexican border into the United States illegally.
