Zakir Naik granted Saudi citizenship by King Salman

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz has granted citizenship of his country to controversial Islamic preacher to Zakir Naik, who is wanted by Indian authorities for alleged terrorist offences.

According to reports, he has been nominated in several cases over accusations of inciting youngsters to wage Jihad.

His organisation Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) was also banned by Narendra Modi administration and he was staying in Saudi Arabia ever since he came under the scanner. Naik also has money laundering allegations against him.

Naik was believed to be staying in Saudi Arabia to evade arrest after his activities came under scanner following accusations that he had inspired some of the terrorists who attacked a cafe in Dhaka a year ago.

The Middle East Monitor alleged that the Indian passport office had cancelled Dr Zakir's passport in an attempt to force him to return home after a special Mumbai court issued a warrant for his arrest last month. India will make a request to the Saudi Arabia government to deport Naik to India for Investigation.
