Trump Approval Rating Hits New Low

The poll, conducted between May 14 and 18, pegged the number of Americans who disapprove of the president's job at 56 percent.

A new poll says public approval of U.S. President Donald Trump has dropped to its lowest level since he was inaugurated, with the drop in confidence centered among Republican voters. The remaining 6 percent had "mixed feelings".

The survey was conducted immediately after two explosive reports from The Washington Post and The New York Times concerning allegations that Trump disclosed highly sensitive classified material to Russian officials and previously asked Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey - who he has since fired - to end the agency's investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

The week began with the revelations that Trump gave secret information to Russian diplomats at a private meeting.

Later in the week, the Justice Ministry announced it appointed former FBI Director Robert Muller as head of an independent investigation into the contacts of Donald Trump's campaign with Russian Federation.

The plane involved was cleared of passengers and was being checked by an explosive operations detection unit, the newspaper said. Mark and Donna Basden were among the first to board the plane Friday and found a laptop in the seat pocket of Mark Basden.

Voters, however, split 44 to 39 percent over whether USA government officials were right to leak Trump's reported information sharing to news outlets, according to survey results.

Administration officials called the premise of the report "false", although Trump argued he has an "absolute right" to share information with Russian officials. No politician in history, he said, "has been treated worse or more unfairly".

While Trump remains popular with members of his own party, many rank-and-file Republicans appear to have backed off their support for the president during the past week.

The roller coaster of a week sent Trump's disapproval numbers among Republicans from 16 percent last week to 23 percent this week.

While it is the polls lowest recorded approval since Trump took office on January 20, other polls have recorded lower numbers in the past.
