Swami bobbitized by Kerala girl for sexual harassment

Girl chopped off genitals of the inmate from Panmana Ashram in Kollam, who allegedly molested her for last 6 yrs; Man was hospitalised.

The 54-year-old swami first allegedly assaulted the girl when she was 16.

According to the girl, the Swami was a frequent visitor to her home and used to conduct religious ceremonies.

When the accused tried to again rape her at her home on Friday night, the woman grabbed a sharp object and chopped off his penis.

Speaking to doctors who treated him at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital, Hari Swamy said that he himself had cut his penis. A case under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) was registered against him.

The woman said she took the drastic step in self defense. The girl was under duress from Class 12, she said.

After she had committed the act, she called the Thiruvananthapuram police to inform them that she did it as an act of self-defence.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reacted to the incident and said that it was courageous of her to take such a step. In the police complaint, the law student has said that her mother was also sexually abused by the accused.

"The person in the news reports had lived in the Ashram eight years ago".

Meanwhile, Prameela Devi, a member of the Kerala State Women's Commission, hailed the girl for doing this.

The police have registered a case against Swami.
