Mental Health - You're Not Alone

Mental Health - You're Not Alone

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is 'Surviving or Thriving?' The fact is, people who are barely surviving financially, and can only see their prospects getting worse no matter how hard they work, are highly unlikely to thrive.

"We're excited to be part of an effort that seeks to normalize discussion of mental health in the workplace", said Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, who founded the Steinberg Institute with the goal of making mental health care a public policy priority in the U.S. We know that the United Kingdom has stark health inequalities, with richer people enjoying nearly twenty years more healthy life than poorer people, yet economic factors often seem to be ignored when mental health is under discussion. That same year, 113 youth emergency mental health evaluations were conducted at Westerly Hospital and 88 were conducted at South County Hospital.

"With this in mind, HR strategists should look at ways to foster a culture of openness which actively encourages staff to share their needs on an ongoing basis so that they can be fully supported". I am retraining to be a Medical Herbalist, and hope to work with people in the future on how herbal medicine may be suitable to help manage some conditions, as well as working with people on nutritional advice, exercise and to maintain good mental health. Many of us, myself included, like to pretend to everyone that we are fine, but people do want to listen and help, both personally and professionally. However, because she did not feel like she was worth the trouble to get better and found no problem with her current state she resisted treatment and only pretended to take the matter seriously.

Take the case of Faye Smith, for example. This helps to avoid that mindless checking and re-checking we all fall victim to. In a class of 25 students, it's likely that five of them will deal with depression, anxiety, substance use disorders or other adverse childhood experiences that make learning a serious challenge. Firstly, emotional health relates specifically to social and emotional competencies, such as the ability to empathise or regulate emotions, whereas mental health also encompasses cognitive and neurological functioning, including things like memory and impulse control.

As Ellen Scott put it, 'we still need to be talking about mental health'. Sometimes the answer is clear, but often the distinction between mental health and mental illness isn't so obvious. "We all have mental health, and that's why we have to move toward being proactive and taking care of our mental health".

Russian Foreign Minister On James Comey: 'Was He Fired? You Are Kidding!'
The last visit of the Russian FM to the United States was in 2013, while presidential visits haven't taken place since 2010. It would also signal that the two countries have improved ties Trump recently described as being at an "all-time low".

"Mental illness impacts many families, with major depression being a leading cause of disability throughout the country", said Becky Tresnicky, LCSW, Director of Valley Baptist Behavioral Health Services.

If you see people who are agitated, very anxious or very depressed, I think people tend to shy away from them. In contrast, rumination would focus on how angry and upset you are with your friend, and how unfair they were being, without leading to constructive learning or action. If employees are an organization's greatest resource, their mental health must be top of mind.

If you, or anyone you know, are struggling with your mental health, there are people that can help. How are things now compared to six months ago? Research has found that 30% of people with a long-term physical health problem also have a mental health problem and 46% of people with a mental health problem also had a long-term physical health problem.

"While it is not the role of schools to replace the specialist support that mental health services provide, they can and should play a crucial role in developing the skills young people need to cope and flourish in today's world".
