Man shot by police after striking officer dies

Authorities in Virginia say a man shot by police after pinning an officer against a vehicle has died.

Police say the driver, 28-year-old Daniel Boak of Centreville, was taken to a hospital, where he died.

At around 4:32 p.m. Wednesday, officers attempted a traffic stop as Boak travelled on Interstate 395 at Jefferson Davis Highway.

The names of the injured officer and the other officers involved have not been released. As Boak waited in heavy traffic, officers again tried to stop the auto, approaching on foot.

At that time, shots were fired by officers, injuring the driver.

Meanwhile, Ms Dugdale rejected union boss Len McCluskey's statement that he can not see Labour winning the General Election. He added: "People like me are always optimistic... things can happen".

Boak ignored their commands, police said, driving the truck into an officer and pinning him against another vehicle.

Boak was wanted on a misdemeanor narcotics charge in Fairfax County, Arlington police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said.

That's when officers fired at the truck, striking Boak.

The driver was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition. Officers were then able to free the pinned officer after moving the truck, she said. A second officer was treated on the scene.
