Man posed no threat before being fatally shot by Oklahoma officer

The jury selected consists of two black women, seven white women and three white men. No one offered the victim aid for more than two minutes, Tulsa World reported.

The jurors are expected to hear opening statements in the trial on Wednesday.

Six witnesses also testified on Wednesday, including Officers Tyler Turnbough - Shelby's backing officer - and Michael Richert, who was in the helicopter with Shelby's husband. Prosecutors are alleging that Shelby used an unreasonable amount of force to prompt compliance from Crutcher, whom she and other officers encountered near his reportedly stalled vehicle in the middle of a two-lane Tulsa road on September 16. She stands up on several occasions as she re-enacts how Crutcher walked away from her, and how she followed him while pointing her gun at him.

Shelby, 43, had said the 40-year-old Crutcher wasn't obeying commands and kept reaching for his pockets, and that she shot him because she thought he was reaching into his vehicle for a gun.

Wallace said Crutcher became concerned because he already bought the required textbook, but she told him he would be able to get a refund the following week. "And when you look at the whole picture, all the evidence will show this".

She says in the video that Turnbough told her that "If I had a gun, I would have shot him too" had she pulled out her Taser.

Jurors in Betty Shelby's manslaughter trial watched about 40 minutes of video Thursday afternoon of Shelby talking to lead Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker during a September 19 interview for his investigation into the incident. An autopsy determined he had PCP in his system at the time of his death.

The police officer revealed that Crutcher had an "odd" and "zombie-like" behavior before she shot him dead. He said he announced to Shelby that he had a Taser ready and Shelby said "OK", but Shelby told Walker she didn't remember seeing or responding to Turnbough.

Another state witness, Tulsa Police Officer Jason Roy arrived to the scene as the shooting occurred.

Poth said his reasoning for telling Shelby to stay silent was to ensure she "exercised her rights".

Shelby replies, "No. There wasn't time".

"It was obvious there was something that transpired before I arrived", he said, noting that "the situation made me a little uneasy, a little edgy".

Once Crutcher was at his driver's side window, he turned to face the officers, then reached inside the window, which was rolled halfway down, with his left hand.

"I didn't know that she had fired", Turnbough said. "I thought it was extra loud".

Moments later, Tulsa officer Betty Jo Shelby shot Crutcher.

Shelby is now on unpaid leave and is facing between four years and life in prison if convicted.
