Major Cyber Attack With Stolen NSA Tools Hits Systems Worldwide

All versions of Windows prior to Windows 10 are vulnerable to "Ransomware" but Windows 10 is safe from it.

Large swathes of the NHS were paralysed by the cyber attack, which hit 200,000 victims in 150 countries around the world.

WannaCry is a crypto-ransomware that aims at attacking internet-enabled computers and ceases use of the affected coputers by the intended users.

There are concerns that the "complex emerging picture" could get worse as workers return to their computers from the weekend break.

There are several factors in play.

The virus is known as Wanna Decryptor or WannaCry.

The difference between the earlier WannaCry attacks and the latest one is a worm-like component that infects other computers by exploiting a critical remote code execution vulnerability in the Windows implementation of the Server Message Block 1.0 (SMBv1) protocol. "They need to take a different approach and adhere in cyberspace to the same rules applied to weapons in the physical world", he said.

The Irish Government said that the National Cyber Security Centre at the Department of Communications is monitoring the situation, and that the impact on Irish organisations has been minimal so far.

Celtics nab top overall pick
LaVar Ball touted Fultz as the player the Celtics should draft during an appearance Wednesday on Fox Sports 1's "Undisputed". After the lottery ended, Pierce wrote on twitter: "And look what I leave behind for the Celts on my way out #1 pick".

FedEx: The company said it was "experiencing interference with some of our Windows-based systems caused by malware" and was trying to fix the problems as quickly as possible.

Symantec said the majority of organisations affected were in Europe. We should be prepared: "more hospitals will nearly certainly be shut down by ransomware this year".

The malware can directly decrypt system files using a unique decryption key. Some operations have been canceled and experts say new strains of the cyberattack could further manifest.

Russian Central Bank: State media agency Tass reported the bank discovered malware bulk emails to banks but detected no compromise of resources.

Confirming that 97 per cent of hospitals were "back to normal", she said, "This is a virus that attacked Windows platforms". The company said the virus has been localized and "technical work is underway to destroy it and update the antivirus protection". The statement said antivirus systems are working to destroy it.

"The EternalBlue exploit is part of a bigger leak called "Lost In Translation" that packs multiple vulnerabilities ranging from simple annoyances to extremely severe ones", Bogdan Botezatu, senior e-threat analyst at Bitdefender, said by email.

The malware, using a technique purportedly stolen from the US National Security Agency, stopped care Friday at hospitals across the United Kingdom, affected Russia's Ministry of Interior and infected company computer systems in countries from Eastern Europe to the US and Asia. Victims ranged from Renault auto plants in France to the FedEx delivery company in the United States, as well as Russia's interior ministry and Chinese universities. "At this stage, we do not have any evidence that patient data has been accessed". In China, official Xinhua news agency said some secondary schools and universities had been affected.

And he defended the Government after a National Audit Office report in November warned that taking money away from NHS services would leave them vulnerable, telling BBC Breakfast it was down to individual trusts to protect against vulnerabilities and insisting they had enough money to protect against cyber attacks.
